Great! I totally screwed my PC.

Being the dumbass that I am, I went and killed my MBR (Master Boot Record) by trying to fix an install of Linux (Fedora Core 6) on my PC. I wanted to run a dual boot system, which is what happened.

I had it all set up GRUB worked fine except for the fact that when I selected the Windows installation it tried to boot the wrong partition. Easily remedied by editing the commandin GRUB. The issue I was having was that when FC6 loads up I see a few lines of the startup and then the screen would go dead. No more signal. I decided that it might be the ATI graphics card that was the culprit so I removed it from the system and hooked up an old monitor to the VGA port. Same thing happened, so I decided to try reinstalling FC6... this is where things take a turn for the worse.

Upon reboot, the GRUB loader doesn't do its normal thing instead it just gives me a GRUB command line. Oh yeah, I am nowhere near a very competent Linux guy. So I try figuring out the GRUB loader... I get it to load Linux, same loss of video signal occurs. Reboot try to figure out how to load Windows from GRUB to no avail. Crap... I then proceed to boot from the recovery cd to get myself to a DOS prompt. From there I did fixmbr in hopes of at least getting Windows to load correctly. Reboot, swear a lot as the boot record I fixed is now booting from the recovery partition.

Oh yeah fun times ahead... running chkdsk now because there ws another issue I had pop up that suggested I do so. Not good... PC still not fixed and I have to go to work soon.

Damn near bricked my phone

I was attempting to install a new ROM on my 8125 and in order to install the one I wanted I first had to downgrade my phone. This had to be done in order for the unlock method to work, something to do with the bootloader I think.

I started up the ROM flashing program and I let it load then the damn thing hangs and crashes at 98% complete. I freak out, soft reset and the phone loads up that multi-color bootload screen... gasp. $#!% did I just brick this! I'm starting to sweat now, I realize that this screen I'm looking at is the bootloader which means I can still flash the ROM. I click on over to the HTC support site and download the most recent Cingular ROM and flash that.

Perfect! The phone took the ROM successfully and works just like it used to. Thank god, it was a stretch to purchase the phone in the first place so replacing it is not an option.

I'm still looking into ROM updates because I don't believe that Cingular/HTC will be releasing further updates to the Wizard line. Hopefully they will but for now I will still be reckless with my tech.

The Crafting of a World

Some people know that I was really into creating a persistent world for Neverwinter Nights. Currently I no longer develop for that server anymore and have missed creating all that content. I have decided to start writing my own campaign setting for the d20 system, one which uses the concepts from the NWN project as a basis.

More updates on my progress as it happens.

‘Jimi Ride’

I was on my way home this morning when I noticed a car coming up on me. Now realize I'm in a fairly rural/suburban area, and I was on a side street, so I want expecting many cars on the road. I happened to look into the rear view and noticed that there were a couple of younger guys, early twenties or so. I looked back a couple of times and what I saw that they were obviously out on a puffing cruise. I never caught anyone in the act like that. Quite highly amused by that right now... I doubt they were listening to Hendrix though.
